BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah yesterday cautioned Muslims from any influences that might erode their Aqidah or faith in Islam, while urging the strengthening of the faith in the midst of multi-faceted challenges.

Delivering the titah at the Istana Nurul Iman on the occasion of Hari Raya Aidiladha which falls today, His Majesty cited the work of wicked Iblis or devil, which not only seeks to make Muslims stray away from the right path, but also damage their faith.

Eulogising the significance of the Aidiladha celebration, which is one of the most eminent symbols of Islam that brings about many lessons, His Majesty said the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) to sacrifice his own son Prophet Ismail (pbuh) is an extraordinary manifestation of faith and must be exemplified.

"Allah the Almighty has given both of them the most difficult of tests (of their faith) but they were able to go through it," His Majesty said while adding that this is a true example of a blessing because the extraordinary and significant event holds the most profuse of wisdom and lessons for Muslims.

Whether consciously or not His Majesty said Muslims, from since the beginning of time have constantly been tested.

"These tests' objectives are a reason for Allah the Almighty to grant his blessings to us provided that we successfully go through the tests," His Majesty said.

His Majesty said the most challenging test is usually linked to faith.

"Because if faith is broken hence our self-worth as Allah's servants will severely collapse...this is what the devil wants, for us humans to be afflicted with a misfortune of the faith," added His Majesty.

We can look back and gain lessons from the tale of Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) and Prophet Ismail (pbuh), where the devil has gravely attempted to distort the faith of both prophets so they could disobey Allah the Almighty's order.

His Majesty highlighted that one must remember that the devil's work is not physical but rather through the various innate network or systems of a human being.

"We are only aware of the devil's work when Muslims are continuously being pressed with inaccurate allegations such as Islam as an outdated religion or its laws being difficult and others," His Majesty
added.

If these allegations or presumptions are also being allowed by Muslims themselves, even though as far as thoughts in their minds, His Majesty cautioned that this can already be feared to jeopardise their faith.

"This is the wisdom of celebrating the blessed Aidiladha, while carrying out the sacrifice...so that we can take heed of the event where Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) and his son Prophet Ismail (pbuh) were pushed by the devil to disobey Allah the Almighty's orders. But both prophets, with their strong faith and Tawakal, Allah the Almighty has protected them from being caught in the devil's whispers," His Majesty said.

The monarch also said Muslims must always be wary of their faith, calling it a significant and challenging task because not everyone is wary of the devil's tactics, except for those who have been shown guidance.

His Majesty urged Muslims to keep themselves close to Allah the Almighty by asking for guidance and direction in all matters, especially when we are facing challenging tests. The guidance from Allah the Almighty, His Majesty said is a form of blessing.

Before concluding the titah, His Majesty prayed for blessings to be showered upon our Haj pilgrims currently in the holy land to perform the fifth pillar of Islam. His Majesty and the royal family also wished all Muslims in the country a blessed Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration.

His Majesty said Muslims today must take heed of the significant event so they will never ever neglect the work of the wicked devil to destroy our faith and principles of life.
