The Ministry of Communications (MinCom) and its departments hosted a Korban ceremony in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha yesterday at the ministry's Amar Pahlawan Hall at Jalan Menteri Besar.

The guest of honour was the Minister of Communications, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat.

Also present were the Permanent Secretary at the MinCom, Haji Azhar bin Haji Ahmad as well as heads of departments, officers and staff members.

The ceremony began with a mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah which was followed by a special talk by Ustaz Dr Andas Haji Ismuhadi bin Haji Abdullah from the Islamic Da'wah Centre.

The sacrificial meat was distributed by the Minister' of Communications and spouse, Pengiran Datin Hajah Jamilah binti Pengiran Haji Mohd Yussof, as well as the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications.

Seven buffaloes were slaughtered this year and the sacrificial meat was presented to 47 orphans and 62 special recipients, as well as officers and staff.

The Korban ceremony is an annual event organised by the ministry to instil awareness of religious obligations, assist the needy and strengthen ties among the officers and staff.

This year's ceremony was organised by the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department.
