The Lao Embassy to the USA, Canada and Mexico, representing Lao overseas, has donated 24 million kip (almost US$3,000) to provide relief for victims of floods in their motherland.

The donation was made at the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare in Vientiane Capital on September 13 between the Lao Ambassador to the USA, Canada, and Mexico, Mr Mai Sayavong, and the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Mr Bounkhong Larsoukanh.

Mr Mai said that the funds came from Lao people living overseas who held a fund raising campaign during the celebration of the Lao New Year at the embassy based in Washington D.C.

The Lao embassy in Washington D.C. also held a charity golf tournament to help flood victims in Laos which drew overseas Lao living in the USA and Canada. Similar events will be held next year, explained Mr Mai.

In reply, Mr Bounkhong thanked Ambassador Mai and the overseas Lao for their kind support to help those victims of natural disasters.
