Although the vaccination rate in the country is among the highest in the world, there are still some citizens and residents who are at risk of being severely affected by COVID-19 infection, such as children under 12 years of age. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health informed the matter during the Special Media Conference on Vaccination for Children Aged 5 to 11.

In the country, 12 percent of all COVID-19 patients recorded were children under 12 years. According to the World Health Organization WHO and studies that have been carried out around the world, children can be infected at the same rate as adults. WHO statistics also show children and adolescents infected with COVID-19 will typically experience fewer and milder signs of infection than adults. In this regard the Ministry of Health will continue to give priority towards the prevention and protection of children from getting serious infections.
