Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah yesterday officiated the Domestic Science Exhibition 2016 at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
Organised by Pertiwi Association, the exhibition is held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 70th birthday celebrations for the Brunei-Muara District.
Accompanying Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-atLarge at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Their Royal Highnesses were welcomed upon arrival by association members, led by Datin Hajah Siti Hajar binti Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof in her capacity as co-chairperson of the organising committee.
In her welcoming address, Datin Hajah Siti Hajar explained that the exhibition aimed to showcase women's role in domestic science and to raise awareness on current global development and issues, particularly in facing challanges to balance daily tasks while ensuring the well-being of children, their education and protection.
The exhibition, mostly carried out in the form of demonstrations and sales promotion, provides a platform for women, allowing them to treat it as a hobby or as a means of generating an income.
Participation from various agencies and non-government organisations (NGOs) further strengthens knowledge among women, particularly mothers, in facing social challenges and how to handle it, she explained.
Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah later presented certificates and souvenirs to exhibitors and participants comprising officials from the government and private sectors, NGOs, youths, Women's Bureau, village consultative councils and foreign countries' representatives.
Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah and members of the royal family then toured the exhibition that showcased various types of traditional and modern food and pastries, handicraft, as well as home and kitchen wares.
