This is the brilliant moment that confusion reigned supreme across the pond – after a woman from Barnstaple, Devon, accidentally rang the police department in Barnstable, Massachusetts.

The woman, who remained anonymous, reported a car accident between the rural villages of Muddiford and Ilfracombe – and raged down the line about the supposed actions of one irresponsible motorist.

Understandably, the Massachusetts cop on the other end of the line was left somewhat perplexed by the whole thing.

‘I am sorry I am having a little trouble hearing you’, he politely tells the woman.

Chaos continues throughout the clip – until the woman finally realises that she has rang the US town’s police department.

But the policeman finds the whole thing pretty funny, and tells her to expect a response time of ‘about six hours.’

It’s hilarious, although we’re left wondering how the woman didn’t realise her mistake as she dialled an international number, OR when she faced an international dialling tone.

Still, we’re very much glad she didn’t.
