The Ministry of Health advises the public to be vigilant and not to fall prey into buying herbal or supplement products with excessive advertisements and promotions on social media sites in which it's authenticity is unknown. This follows Lianhua Qingwen and Lianhua Qingwen Jiaonang products with unsubstantiated claims that it can be used to prevent or treat COVID-19.

Lianhua Qingwen and Lianhua Qingwen Jiaonang products manufactured in China contain Ephedra. The continuous use of ephedrine without the advice and supervision of a registered medical practitioner may cause side effects such as Headache; Nausea and Increased high blood pressure. So far, the Ministry of Health has not issued any approval or registration for such products. Suppliers and sellers are reminded not to make any false or unfounded claims. The offence of making a false or unfounded claim is punishable with a fine not exceeding $5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 2 years or both.
