Wild Animal Disturbances Increased

The Fire and Rescue Department received 46 reports of wild animal disturbances in 2021. From January to the 26th of April this year, 21 calls were received and one of them involved a crocodile attack incident. Statistics from the Forestry Department's annual report last year, stated, 31 cases were complaints of crocodile disturbances.
To address the issue, the Forestry Department through the action team has installed 24 sets of traps, rods and nets in 2021 and 13 sets for 2022, in all districts according to reported locations. To-date, 4 crocodiles have been successfully caught. The public are advised to ensure the environment is clean as well as to always be alert and vigilant while conducting activities on the river or predator habitats. They are also reminded not to place livestock or pets near the river as well as to avoid feeding wild animals. For any emergencies, contact hotline 995.
