VIENTIANE

(KPL) Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh met with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh in Washington D.C. on May 13 on the sidelines of the ASEAN-US Special Summit.

The two leaders discussed the strengthening of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.

This year, the two Parties, governments and peoples of Laos and Vietnam are celebrating the 60th anniversary of Laos-Vietnam diplomatic ties and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Lao-Vietnamese Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

The two leaders highly valued the results of their meeting in January and their phone talks in April 2022.

They reviewed the implementation of agreements they signed in January and laid out directions for strengthening cooperation for years to come.

The two leaders agreed on continuing to implement the agreements between the two countries including those made at the meeting between the two politburos and the agreement on the 2022 Cooperation Plan of the Laos-Vietnam Inter-governmental Committee, and other key documents.

Both leaders agreed to enhance and deepen cooperation on politics, public security and national defense, economy, trade and investment in line with the guidelines of the two Parties and governments, and cooperation and mutual assistance in regional and international arenas.

They also agreed to increase the education of the Laos-Vietnam special solidarity among civil servants and general public members, especially among the youth, of the two countries.
