Among the strategies to increase the taqwa or piety that can make one have a good internal self-control is the ability to control their hearts and maintain behaviour. It also requires one to enhance their prayers, issue infaq and interact with Al-Quran. These were among the matters touched during the National Counselling Conference yesterday. The conference organised by the Faculty of Education, Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB in collaboration with the Brunei Darussalam Counselling Association, PERKAB was held virtually at the University College.
This morning's session among others saw presentation of a keynote address by President of PERKAB titled 'Strategi Peningkatan Ketaqwaan Dalam Mewujudkan Kawalan Dalam Diri'. Meanwhile, a member of the Malaysian Board of Counselors in his keynote address on 'Vaksin ketuhanan Mendepani Ketidaktentuan' or 'Divine Vaccine in the Face of Uncertainty' touched on the difference between Western Counselling of Tazkiyah and An-Nafs.
The afternoon session, Yang Berbahagia Associate Professor Doctor Haji Md Noor bin Haji Saper, President of the Malaysian Syar'ie Counseling Association highlighted the Importance of Spiritual and Religious Components as an Intervention for Mental Health Issues. He explained that spirituality and religion are important in addressing the issue as it takes into account cultural diversity that encompasses aspects of values, beliefs and religion. This is in particular the aspect of heart especially in dealing with the issue of depression.
