Outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo is finalizing details of her Angat Buhay non-government organization (NGO), which might possibly include her widely successful free telemedicine initiative, the Bayanihan E-Konsulta, once her term ends on June 30, her spokesman said.

Her spokesperson Barry Gutierrez spoke on One PH on Wednesday night, June 1, about Robredo’s plans after stepping down from office.

“But right now, her focus is clearly ‘yung pagtatapos ng kaniyang termino at pagsisimula ng bagong chapter bilang pinuno naman ng (the end of her term and starting a new chapter as head of the) Angat Buhay NGO,” he said.

However, he couldn’t yet reveal details of the NGO since the “areas of work” are still being finalized.

“So hindi ko pa masasagot nang sigurado kung make-carry over ‘yung (I cannot answer for sure if we will carry over) specific programs like Bayanihan E-Konsulta. But definitely, isa ‘yan sa mga iko-consider (it will be one of those that will be considered),” Gutierrez added.

The spokesman stressed that Robredo aims to bring the same quality of public service, even on “a smaller scale”, in this new initiative.

He asked volunteers offering their services to wait until they finalize the details of the program, promising that they will soon reach out to them.

Senator Franklin Drilon, who just retired from political life, had already expressed an intention to volunteer for Angat Buhay.

Far Eastern University’s College of Law Dean Mel Sta. Maria also once said he would volunteer to be a part of Robredo’s NGO.

As for him, Gutierrez said he has yet to speak with Robredo about his future role in Angat Buhay.

Bayanihan E-Konsulta ended its operations on May 31 after a year of helping Covid and non-Covid patients in the National Capital Region (NCR) and neighboring provinces.

The initiative, run purely on volunteerism, was started in April last year to help decongest hospitals during the outbreak of Covid-19.

Robredo’s Angat Buhay NGO was announced during a thanksgiving rally with her supporters after the May 9 polls.

Many of her supporters already expressed willingness to help the NGO, which is expected to become one of the biggest volunteer-driven organizations in the country.
