The Department of Energy focuses on 3 main areas in meeting the needs of Energy Security in the country, namely managing hydro carbon resources effectively and sustainably, diversifying the country's power generation mix and improving energy services. According to the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, the Energy Sector is undoubtedly a key engine for the national development and socio-economic growth. The overall Energy Sector last year accounted for 58.8 percent or $11 billion of total Gross Domestic Product, GDP.

In an effort to further diversify the Downstream Energy Sector, Brunei Darussalam recorded a total output of 14.35 million tonnes of products from its downstream sector with an estimated export value of BND$10.7 billion. Speaking at the Opening of Energy Week in conjunction with the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition, MYCE 2022, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof also said natural gas is the most important transition fuel to support energy transition. The ceremony took place yesterday MORNING at the International Convention Centre, Berakas.

With the theme, 'Energy Security and Transition: Today and Tomorrow', the Energy Week was launched by the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism; and Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
