Chinese President Xi Jinping will be sending Vice President Wang Qishan as his special representative to the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on June 30.

This was confirmed by Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian on Tuesday night, June 28.

“As the Special Representative of President Xi Jinping, Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan will attend the inauguration ceremony of the Philippines’ President-elect Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr. on June 30,” Huang said in a Facebook post.

“Look forward to this great event,” he added.

Xi had a phone conversation with Marcos Jr. on May 17 where they talked about the bilateral ties of Philippines and China and matters concerning regional development.

The Chinese President then urged both countries to “grasp the general trend, write a grand story on the China-Philippines friendship in the new era and follow through the blueprint for bilateral friendly cooperation so as to usher in an even brighter future for the bilateral ties.”

Meanwhile, Second Gentleman of the United States Douglas Emhoff arrived in the country on Tuesday. He will lead the US delegation sent by US President Joseph Biden to attend Marcos Jr.’s inauguration.

The incoming president will be taking his oath at the National Museum instead of the Quirino Grandstand, where presidential inaugurations were usually held.
