PHILIPPINES

Brunei's athletes qualified for the finals of their respective events at the Philippines National Open but failed to secure podium finishes.

Brunei's hopeful Mohammad Fakhri Ismail finished sixth in the final of the men's 100m (10.74s). He was just 0.15s shy of his personal best.

Since this was his first event overseas, the recipient of the IOC training scholarship for Rio Olympic 2016 said he was "quite satisfied".

"I hope that there will be more opportunities to compete in overseas to boost my exposure and performance," he said.

Maziah Muhasin, Brunei's first female Olympian, managed a personal best of 12.58s to finish fifth in the women's 100m final.

"I got nervous in the final because it was my first time running in a 100m event," she said.

Maizurah binti Abdul Rahim also recorded a personal best of 13.15s in the girl's 100m final to claim fifth spot.

She will be running in the girl's 200m final today.

Mohd Ammar Safwan bin Haji Zaidin managed to clinch a spot in the final of the boy's 400m, which is expected to take place today.
