Eating unprocessed foods doesn’t guarantee good health. Most fresh and frozen foods contain pesticide residue. And research has linked pesticides found in foods to diseases like cancer, infertility and other health problems.

The best way to avoid these side effects is to buy organic. Eating these foods frequently can do your body more harm than good. Here’s a list of foods with highest pesticide residue according to environmental working group (EWG).

1. Apples

99 percent of apples tested were found to have pesticide residue. And they contained 42 pesticide residues. And some of those pesticides have negative side effects like disrupting hormones and affecting reproduction.

2. Peaches

99 percent of peaches tested were found to have at least one pesticide residue. And most of them have been proven to have harmful effects on the body.

3. Nectarines

97 percent of nectarines tested has pesticide residue. And most of them were harmful and toxic.

4. Strawberries

Each strawberry was found to have at least 13 different pesticides residues. And on average they had 54 different pesticides.

5. Grapes

Each grape contained at least 15 pesticide residues. And most of these pesticides are known to disrupt hormones and affect reproduction.

6. Celery

Celery contains an average of 64 pesticide residues. And most of them affect development, reproduction and hinder growth of hormones.

7. Spinach

On average, spinach contains 32 pesticide residues. These pesticides have harmful effects like infertility and hormonal imbalances.

8. Sweet bell peppers

Sweet bell peppers that were tested had at least 15 pesticides.

9. Cucumbers

A cucumber has an average of 35 pesticide residues some of which are known hormonal disruptors and affect reproduction.

10. Cherry tomatoes

A cherry tomato has at least 13 different pesticide residues.

11. Snap peas

Snap peas (especially imported) have at least 13 different pesticide residues.

12. Potatoes

Potatoes have been found to have 37 different pesticide residues.

13. Kale

When buying kale choose organic, whether they’re fresh or frozen.

14. Lettuce

The tests showed that lettuce had at least 11 pesticide residues.
