VIENTIANE

(KPL) Nong Khang New Airport in Laos’ Houaphanh Province has been completed and expected to be used in September 2022.

The construction commenced in Oct-2013 but has been delayed due to lack of funds and economic recession, according to the former Minister of Planning and Investment Mr. Suphan Keomixay has reported at recent National Assembly meeting.

The airport development project is estimated to cost USD74 million and was funded by private Vietnamese investor, Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group. The airport was designed to feature a 2400 m runway capable of handling ATR72 and Fokker F70 equipment. It was expected to have a handling capacity for 100,000 passengers when the first stage of construction was scheduled for completion in Oct-2016.
