Local authorities have estimated that damages caused by recent floods and landslides in three villages in Xieng Khuang’s Phoukoud district total more than 1.5 billion kip (over US$185,000).
Vice Governor of Xieng Khuang Ms Outhen Masysonxay, accompanied by relevant officials, on Sep 26 visited the Longhang focal area to inspect the damage caused by natural disasters. Heavy rain reported on Aug 18-19 resulted in flooding and landslides in the three villages of the Long Hang focal area.
The natural disasters caused damage to irrigation facilities and over 70 ha of farmland of local people in the villages of Long Hang, Lang Chong, and Vang Tong.
Two houses have reportedly suffered basic infrastructure damage as well as the property of several local residents, according to local authorities.
In addition to the natural disasters, 8.3 ha of farmland in the locality was also damaged by an infestation of locusts.
While meeting with local authorities on Monday, Ms Outhen urged the local authorities to mobilize assistance for local farmers so that they could grow alternative crops to compensate for the damage caused by the natural disaster.
On the same occasion, the vice governor also donated clothes to the victims of natural disaster and families in need in the three villages.
