PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he was only interested in doing his best for the country, adding that it is OK if no one appreciates this.

In a note penned before he went to prison, the former Prime Minister said he has always put the people first and given everything to vulnerable groups of people who needed it most.

"Such is life after all, it is okay if people do not appreciate this," said Najib in a Facebook post on Monday (Aug 22).

"There are people who say don't step on a friend or don't pull your friend together when you fall. I guess in politics, you should never be a gentleman. But that is my personality, how can I be someone I am not," he added.

Najib said he settled the legal issues left behind by previous leaders and managed to overcome several financial crises and increased the size of the economy from RM700bil to RM1.4tril.

He also said that he also increased the national assets of Khazanah from RM33bil to RM116bil, which was four times the amount.

"The world of politics is full of persecution, cruelty, enmity, sincerity returned with betrayal and disparage. I have seen and experienced all this until today.

"Probably this is my journey which is my destiny in this world.

"My personal sacrifice, time and family from dusk until dawn and now I face a heavy task which is testing my family and I and probably this is the price you pay for sacrifice," added Najib.
