The seven-day average of new Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila decreased by 19 percent as compared to the number reported during the previous week, according to the latest monitoring of the OCTA Research Group.
In an update shared on Twitter, OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David said Metro Manila averaged 862 cases on Aug. 29, down from 1,062 cases on Aug. 22
Moreover, David said that Metro Manila’s reproduction number—the average number of secondary infections by each infected individual—decreased to 0.95 from 0.99.
“A reproduction number less than 1 indicates decreasing infections,” he added.
Metro Manila’s current average daily attack rate (ADAR) is 5.98 per 100,000 population, which is considered “low,” according to OCTA’s metrics.
The capital region’s positivity rate was also down from 14.6 percent on Aug. 18 to 12.7 percent on Aug. 25.
Positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who were tested for Covid-19.
According to the benchmark set by the WHO, the positivity rate should remain below 5 percent to ensure that Covid infections are contained.
“The healthcare utilization rate for Covid in the NCR (National Capital Region) remained low at 33.3 percent, while ICU occupancy was also low at 25.8 percent,” David said.
