Jakarta Police have arrested several officers from Penjaringan precinct in North Jakarta for abuse of authority. The police, however, did not explain the suspected violations.

Sr. Comr. Endra Zulpan, Jakarta Police spokesperson, said on Wednesday that Penjaringan precinct’s chief of crime investigation unit and several of his subordinates were arrested by the National Police’s internal affairs division.

“I cannot say now how many officers have been arrested,” Endra said as quoted by Antara.

The police spokesman said the officers would be put under special detention for the next 20 days for ethics violations.

Endra denied that the Penjaringan Police chief was also arrested, saying the internal affairs division questioned Penjaringan Police chief Comr. Ratna Quratul Ainy.

“[She] has returned to her duties,” Endra said.

The police did not say whether the ethics violation charges were related to at least 35 police officers -- including three one-star generals -- who had been detained in relation to the alleged murder of Brig. Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat.

Last week, the National Police dishonorably discharged former internal affairs chief Insp. Gen. Ferdy Sambo. The two-star general is among four suspects charged with the premeditated murder of Yosua, his own aide-de-camp, on July 8, in South Jakarta. (dre)
