SERIAN, SARAWAK

A teenage motorcyclist was killed while another was seriously hurt after they were involved in a collision with a car here yesterday. The motorcyclist, 15, was from Kampung Hilir.

District police chief DSP Chung Aik Peng said the incident happened in front of a Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia outlet around 1pm, when the motorcycle with the two boys on board went out of control and veered into the opposite side of the road.

“The boys were heading towards Serian when their motorcycle went into the opposite lane and crashed into an oncoming car, driven by a 26-year-old man. The rider was killed instantly, while the 16-year-old pillion rider sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to the hospital here,” said Chung.

The surviving boy, who suffers internal bleeding in his head, has been referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) in Kuching. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile in Kuching, a soldier was hospitalised with serious head injuries following an accident involving two motorcycles in Kota Sentosa on Friday night.

It is said that the 27-year-old military man, who is based at

Mile 8 army camp near Kuching-Serian Road, was making a turn into Kota Sentosa Bazaar at a traffic light intersection when his motorcycle was struck by another machine in the 10.30pm incident.

The second motorcyclist, a 24-year-old male, was travelling towards Mile 8 at the time of the incident and was not hurt. The soldier was rushed to SGH on board an ambulance, which arrived at the scene following a distress call.
