As the lead agency responsible for national security policies in Brunei Darussalam, the Prime Minister's Office will continue to use the 'Whole-of-Nation' and 'Whole-of-Government' approaches in addressing transnational criminal activities that have the potential to affect the safety and security of people in the country. Speaking during the 16th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime, AMMTC Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Chairman of the National Security Committee, emphasised that one aspect of transnational crime that was prevalent in a number of other ASEAN Member States including Brunei Darussalam during the pandemic is the rise in smuggling activities especially across porous land borders and waterways. The meeting was held virtually on 21st September morning.

The 16th AMMTC and Its Related Meetings is chaired by His Excellency Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Kingdom of Cambodia. During the plenary session, ASEAN Ministers and Heads of Delegation adopted the Terms of Reference of the National Representatives for the implementation of the ASEAN Convention Against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, ACTIP. The 3-day meeting will end on 22nd September, with the Dialogue Partner Consultations with the PLUS 3 Countries namely the People's Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea. The meeting was joined by Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Sufian bin Haji Sabtu, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office. The next meeting will be held in 2023 at the Republic of Indonesia.
