Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS) students presented a showcase of their final year projects at the college's premises in Kiulap yesterday.

The students' projects look toward facing current challenges and developing practical knowledge to improve Brunei's tourism environment for foreigners and locals, preserve historical heritage sites, promote volunteerism and raise awareness on community services.

Sonny Junpo, Principal Head of Academics in his opening remarks mentioned that the projects not only
enhances students' learning experience but also facilitate the public and private sector by contributing to their research.

Present at the event was Dr. Pengiran Hajah Fatimah binti Pengiran Setia Jaya Pengiran Haji Abdul Momin, CEO of KIGS, Awang Aziz bin Tuah, Chairman of Municipal Board, BSB, Municipal Department and Haji Abdul Awang Alim bin Haji Othman, Managing Director of Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA).

Nine groups, each named after planets, were given a two week task to complete the 'Global Campus' project that enforces a requirement of "broader capabilities in their ability to comprehend practical global challenges and provide solutions to these challenges for the good of the world," Junpo said.

Team Venus presented their tourism-based project, which improves the Mangrove Resort through services such as a river cruise that will serve as a connecting point to the Temburong Bridge and BSB. 'Maritah Meround Brunei' was the tagline for Team Jupiter, which urged its audience to 'Kenali Negara Kitani' (get to know our own country), by instilling love for what the country has to offer and encourage locals to maintain environmental cleanliness.

The team presented various locations for outdoor activities and eateries in all four districts.

Speaking in an interview, Awang Joni Haji Mukkim, representing Team Mercury, discussed raising awareness on Brunei's historical heritage by preserving the coal mines in Muara as part of a tourist attraction.

Team Neptune presented adopting a spirit of volunteerism in community development focussing on people with disabilities and KACA.

The Global Campuses are divided into three groups where 12 students were sent to London, 38 to Kuala Lumpur and another 38 students who conducted their projects in Brunei.
