The total trade recorded an increase of 36.6 percent from $2200.2 million in July 2021 to $3004.7 million in July 2022. The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, DEPS, Ministry of Finance and Economy in a press release also announced that the total exports increased by 38.7 percent from $1361.6 million in July 2021 to $1888.3 million in July 2022.
The growth was mainly due to the increase in Mineral Fuels exports from $1017.7 million to $1567.2 million in the same period. In addition, Chemicals exports increased from $252.1 million to $287.9 million in the same period.
In terms of commodity, Mineral Fuels represent the major contributor to Brunei Darussalam's exports at 83 percent, followed by Chemicals 15.2 percent, and Manufactured Goods 0.6 percent. The main exports market in July 2022 was Australia at 27 percent, followed by Japan, 16.8 percent and People's Republic of China, 12.8 percent. The largest export commodity to Australia and Japan was Mineral Fuels, while to People's Republic of China was Chemicals.
Meanwhile, the five main imports by commodity this month were Mineral Fuels with 73.6 percent, followed by Machinery and Transport Equipment at 9.3 percent; Food at 5 percent; Chemicals at 4.2 percent and Manufactured Goods at 3.7 percent.
