BOGOR, WEST JAVA
Bogor, West Java, municipal administration tore down three buildings on Tuesday, following a landslide in Kebon Kelapa subdistrict, which killed four people earlier this month.
The municipality will relocate 60 families affected by the demolition to a temporary location for the next few months.
Mayor Bima Arya, who oversaw the demolition, said that the buildings had been constructed without permits, promising to step up measures to prevent more illegal buildings, especially in landslide-prone areas.
The administration will also construct a connection between Cidepit River and Cisadane River to prevent land erosion.
Based on the administration data, a total of 5,603 families in Bogor live in landslide-prone areas, with 1,203 of them having to be moved immediately due to risk.
Bima said his administration had prepared around 4.8 hectares of land in Mulyaharja, Tanah Sareal and Cimahpar for the relocation sites of the 1,203 families.
“I’m giving the respective district chiefs a month to communicate with the families to move to those areas,” he said. (dre)
