Some 300 students of Year 11 and Year 10 Express of Raja Isteri Girls High School (STPRI) yesterday attended a half-day group counselling programme as part of their preparation for their 'O' Level examinations.

The programme saw the involvement of around 20 counsellors invited from various schools who are committed in providing psychological counselling services to the students at the time of preparation and during their examination.

Among the activities that were carried out throughout the session yesterday included ice breaking, examination count down, SMART, eight keys to success, 'Penghijrahan Minda', 'Pengorbanan Indung' and preparation strategies.

In an interview, Dayang Nur Syazila binti Abdullah Lim, a counsellor from STPRI, said that each of the counsellors will handle one group consisting of 15 students in providing guidance and assistance for them to gain strategies for achieving their academic aims.

According to her, the programme helps the students to recognise and accept the reality of possible successes by encouraging a sense of confidence and maturity among them as well as foster self-exploration, self-awareness, self-evaluation within them towards becoming a better person in the future.

She also added that the 'Pengorbanan Indung' session always seemed to have had a positive impact on the students where they were made aware of their parents' sacrifices - time wise, financially and emotionally, for them since they were small until now in hopes that they will gain academic excellence and a proper future.

"I hope that students will benefit from this programme and we (counsellors) will work hard to follow up on the students' academic progress and support their learning process, either individually or in groups."

The objective of the session is to provide opportunities for the participating students to discuss among their friends and counsellors about the techniques of studying, reviewing, time management and tips in answering the exam questions.

At the same time, it is also aimed towards preparing the students mentally and physically before their exam as well as to enhance their skills so that they will be more confident to sit for their exam.
