An award ceremony was held yesterday for 24 students from Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School (SMPAPHM), who obtained excellent results in their 'O' Level examinations last year.
The awards were presented by Pengiran Sarimah binti Pengiran Haji Ahmad, the Acting Head of the Special Education Unit, under the Ministry of Education.
In her speech, the school's Principal, Dayang Hajah Norwen binti Haji Brahim, mentioned the 1.1 per cent increase in the number of students obtaining five 'O' Levels, which was an increase of 55.3 per cent from 54.2 per cent.
Hajah Norwen also assured that SMPAPHM would intensify its efforts to boost learning techniques among Year 11 students, including the "Yes I Can" programme, and the "Burning Midnite Oil" programme, which provides extra classes during examination week.
Pengiran Sarimah, meanwhile, said that teachers, parents and guardians have an important role to play, in shaping the identity and character of the country's youth.
"When faced with obstacles and difficulties, don't just simply give up. Keep on doing it, and do it better. Insya Allah, success will come your way," she told the assembled students.
Twenty-two of the award recipients achieved 15 aggregates in six subjects, while eight recipients scored Grade As in Islamic Religious Knowledge, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science and Geography.
The main highlight of the ceremony was a special award presentation for the best student, Dayang Nurul Syafiqah binti Abdul Rahim.
The event ended with a brief video presentation and a recitation of the Doa Selamat.
