Thai National Day Marked In Vientiane

(KPL) Thai Embassy to Laos celebrated the National Day and Father’s Day of Thailand in Vientiane, Laos on Dec 5 in the presence of senior officials of Laos and Thailand.

 

Minister of Public Works and Transport Viengsavanh Siphandone, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongphan Savanphet, Charge’d’ Affaires of Thailand to Laos Jirusaya Birananda, President of the Lao-Thai Friendship Association Li Bounkao and relevant officials of both countries were also present at the celebration.

 

December 5 is considered as a special day in the Kingdom of Thailand. It commemorates the Birthday Anniversary of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, and Thailand’s Father’s Day.

 

Known as Rama IX, King Bhumibol Adulyadej reigned Thailand between 1946 and 2016, making him the longest-reigning monarch ever in Thailand's history.Despite being a constitutional monarch, and not legally being allowed a role in politics, Bhumibol made several decisive interventions in the Thai political sphere and has been credited with helping facilitate Thailand's transition to democracy in the 1990s.

 

The current king is Vajiralongkorn, or King Rama X, who ascended the throne after his father’s death in 2016. He maintained to celebrate the national day of the country at the similar date of his father’s birthday.

 

Monday’s night celebration of Thai National Day also highlighted performance by students of the Lao College of Arts and Music and that of the youth orchestra of the National School of Arts.

 

There were also many booths of Thai food, beverage and sweets, and medical services for quests of the event.
