Brunei Sign MoU with Kuwait

The Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday signed two agreements and four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Government of the State of Kuwait to further elevate and deepen the two countries' bilateral engagement.

 


His Majesty and His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of the State of Kuwait witnessed the signing of the agreements and MoUs after His Majesty received His Highness the Amir of of Kuwait in audience at the Istana Nurul Iman.

 

 

The agreements and MoUs are: MoU between the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of the State of Kuwait in the field of higher education and scientific research; MoU between the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of the State of Kuwait on tourism cooperation; Agreement between the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of the State of Kuwait on mutual exemption of visa for holders of diplomatic, special and official passports; protocol amending the agreement between the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of the State of Kuwait for the avoidance of double taxation and the
prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income; MoU on establishing a joint commission for cooperation between the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of the State of Kuwait; and MoUbetween the Ministry of Foreign Affairs And Trade of Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait on training.

 

 

Brunei, Kuwait sign Molls to strengthen relations and His Highness the Amir of Kuwait welcomed the increase in bilateral trade and further reflected on the huge potential to expand trade and investment ties so as to promote economic growth in both countries.

 


"Both heads of state also acknowledged the common objectives of pursuing economic diversification and recognised the role of the private sector in enhancing competitiveness and emphasised the importance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in contributing to sustainable development.

 


"In this regard, the heads of state looked forward to the convening of the 3rd Joint Committee Meeting (on Economic and Technical Cooperation) to be held from December 5-6 in Bandar Seri Begawan which would aim to identify and explore deeper cooperation particularly intrade and investment," according to the joint statement.

 


Signing on behalf of the Government of His Majesty was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II; and for the Government of the State of Kuwait was Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

 


Also witnessing the signing ceremonies were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at. the Prime Minister's Office; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik, Royal-in-Attendance; and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

 


The signing ceremonies were held at Baitul Masyuarah, Istana Nurul Iman.
