His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji AlMuhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif All (UNISSA), yesterday launched 26 new publications and books while officiating at the 6th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj, or UNISSA convocation festival.

All of the 26 new publications and books, published by UNISSA, are the results of years of research conducted by lecturers and foreign academicians at the university.

Among them is a journal comprising seven articles and a dictionary of Syariah Criminal Law terms, which is a guide to understanding Islamic jurisprudence.

Other publications include four monographs in Malay and Arabic, including a set of writings by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti, titled 'The practical effects of issuing Fatwa according to the Syafi'i School'.

Meanwhile, 20 books including 11 books in Arabic, six in Malay and three in English were also launched, including a book containing a series of articles on the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB).

Various publications drawn from Master and PhD theses were also presented, as well as three books on Islamic finance and financial literacy.

In the meantime, several booths have been set up for the four-day festival at the International Convention Centre (ICC), with one by Loqman Hamdan, the founder of Al-Huffaz, an enterprise which offers event management and Al-Quran classes to children in the comfort of their homes.

Loqman, who is graduating this year with a degree in Islamic Financial Science, is being assisted in his endeavour by former students of the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

Recently, they won first place in a product-pitching competition held at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), and even took part in an Al-Quran Hafazan Camp competition last September, organised by the Kampong Sungai Besar Mosque Takmir Committee. "We would like to be affiliated with the Islamic Education Department, to help our country be more literate in Al-Quran reading and Islamic
finances," said Loqman.

Meanwhile, Hafeezah binti Haji Mahadi, who graduated with a Degree in Islamic Finance from UNISSA in 2012, has also set up a booth at the ICC, showcasing her skills in her chosen career as a make-up artist.
"I am self-employed and business has been very good," she told the Bulletin. "I normally see customers in the mornings and afternoons, from Thursday to Sunday. It is not related to my course at UNISSA, but it's my full-time career now.

"I find myself in high demand at wedding receptions every weekend, where I offer traditional Bruneian attire for the `Berbedak' ceremony and make-up services for brides. My interest as a make-up artist began way back as a part-timer in 2010, when I was still studying at UNISSA," she said, adding, "I plan to have my very own studio someday."
