His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji AlMuhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, and Pro-Chancellor of the Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), officiated yesterday at the 6th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj, or UNISSA Convocation Festival.

Upon arrival at the International Convention Centre (ICC), His Royal Highness was greeted by Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education, in his capacity as the Chairman of UNISSA Council; and Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, the Rector of UNISSA and Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Convocation Festival.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a Doa, led by Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.

His Royal Highness also signed a plate for the rebranding of the Science Management and Business Faculty to the Islamic Finance and Economic Faculty (FEKIm), which represents the university's efforts to produce highly skilled human resources in the drive for Brunei to become a sustainable economy.

FEKIm also offers a Bachelor of Science as well as a Master's and PhD in Islamic Economy. Since the rebranding of FEKIm, the student enrolment has risen by 48 per cent, compared to that of previous years.

His Royal Highness also toured a gallery showcasing several financial agencies: Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD), the Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM), Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD).

The Department of Economic, Planning and Development ( JPKE) featured aspects of the Brunei economy and some publications, while the Museums Department displayed Islamic artefacts.

His Royal Highness also presided over the launching of 26 new publications and books by UNISSA.

Before leaving the gallery, Dr Haji Norarfan presented a pesambah to His Royal Highness, in the form of a bound AlQuran manuscript (mushaf) with a seashell front cover.

Meanwhile, 28 booths and 100 cube units have been set up for the festival by local entrepreneurs and former UNISSA students.

The booths are open to the public from October 12-16, from 8am to 5pm. Meanwhile on Friday, the booths will be open from Sam to 12pm and from 2pm to 5pm.

Bearing the theme of 'Islamic Finance and Entrepreneurship for a Self-Sustaining Generation', the four-day festival at the ICC will feature several competitions and academic sessions, including a forum on Islamic entrepreneurship and a calligraphy contest.
