BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, the Deputy Minister of Defence, was the guest of honour at the graduation ceremony held yesterday for the 27 participants of the 6th Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Command and Staff Course (RBAF CSC 6), at the RBAF Defence Academy.

Together with 14 officers of the RBAF, and an officer from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), were 12 international participants from the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the People's Republic of China, the Republic of India, the Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Sultanate of Oman, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Singapore, Thailand and the United States of America.

During the awards presentation ceremony, Major Azril Omree bin Dato Hasbullah of the Royal Malaysia Air Force received the RBAF CSC 6 commendation award, and Major Tang Chong Kiat of the Singapore Armed Forces was presented with the RBAF CSC 6 Overall Excellence Award.

At the same time, Major Richard Wilson of the United States Army received the Massey University's Academic Excellence Award from Professor Paul Spoonley, the Pro Vice-Chancellor at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in New Zealand.

Major Tang Chong Kiat told the Media, "It is very unique to have participants from different countries and cultures in an environment where we had to work together, which was really challenging. I hope to bring back all the RBAF taught me during the course, and share it with my fellow officers in Singapore."

Also among those present at the ceremony were Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, the Commander of the RBAF; Datin Paduka Hajah Suriyah binti Haji Umar, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence; and Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohd Irwan bin Haji Hambali, the Acting Commissioner of the RBPF.

The RBAF CSC 6 is a 40-week programme delivered in partnership with New Zealand's Massey University, which aims to broaden the professional and academic knowledge, along with the analytical and communication skills of mid-level officers, in order to prepare them for higher command and staff appointments.
