Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna binti Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Ambassador At-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade yesterday officiated the opening of the Regional Women Conference 2016. The conference was held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.
Upon arrival, Her Royal Highness was welcomed by the committee members of the Regional Women Conference, led by Pengiran Hajah Zabaidah binti Pengiran Haji Kamaludin, President of the Women Graduates Association of Brunei Darussalam.
Over 300 local and international participants attended the Regional Women Conference, with hopes of providing inspiration to instil genuine thinking towards shaping a visionary generation.
The President of the Brunei Darussalam Women Graduates Association in her welcoming address among other matters said that the conference can provide women with relevant knowledge that conforms to Syariah guidelines.
Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna then officiated the conference. The 1-day conference is hoped to further increase knowledge and awareness on the various challenges faced by Muslimah youths in order to face them in an Islamic way.
Her Royal Highness then presented certificates to former Presidents and Presidents of the Brunei Darussalam Women Graduates Association from 1990 up to this year, as well as to speakers of the conference. Her Royal Highness also received a pesambah from the committee members.
In her keynote address, Doctor Lily Suzana binti Haji Shamsu, Dean of the Faculty of Usuluddin, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali among others discussed the contributions made by muslimah, which makes up the majority of women in the country, in various aspects including education, economy, social and highlighted the challenges faced by women. Doctor Lily Suzana, in her working paper entitled 'Bruneian Muslimah in National Development: Prospects and Challenges', also stressed that in the wave of premier development, Bruneian Muslimahs have been able to accentuate trustworthiness and provide meaningful contribution to the country.
The conference, themed "Personality of Exemplary Muslimah; Axis of Ummah Excellence", saw the presentation of working papers from the host country, Malaysia, Republic of Indonesia and Singapore. The conference aimed to instil thinking in making the true Muslimah personality a culture towards shaping a visionary generation.
