This year the UBD also created history when 13 of its graduates received Bachelor degrees in the first cohort enrolment of the Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical and Process Engineering programme. It was part of cooperation between the UBD and Zhee Zhang University, a prominent university in the People's Republic of China. The UBD students also underwent their industrial studies and industry work placements for 18 months at Hengyi Industries and have been accepted to work with the industry.
Universiti Brunei Darussalam also conducts research projects in various disciplines covering biological study, PETRO-Chemical and medicine on some of the country's herbs and flora. Under the project, researchers collect, nurture and spread the plants, enabling them to identify their biological activities and evaluate their benefits. It is hoped the research can facilitate the identification of herbal products for the local and foreign markets. To bless the ceremony, Doa Selamat was read by the State Mufti.
