BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Islam forbids jealousy among the ummah because it can destroy a person and bring bad affects in a person's life, family, society and country. The Friday sermon titled Jauhi Sifat Hasad Dengki or Refrain from Envy and Jealousy highlighted that there are many reasons why a person may feel envious and jealous, some of which are enmity, revenge, fearing that a certain aim or wish is not achievable and the like. Therefore, those who manage to refrain themselves from these attributes will be exalted and bestowed with the reward of Heaven from Allah SWT.

The Imam or Prayer leader said envy and jealousy are among the diseases of the heart which are very difficult to cure. However, there are ways to prevent or treat it. First, always check on oneself and realise that envy and jealousy may harm and destroy yourself. Second, we must always be grateful for the blessings bestowed by Allah SWT. Thirdly, if we see others obtaining favours of advantages, we should acknowledge that they had obtained these by the grace of Allah. Fourthly, we should work diligently and strive to seek sustenance and Allah's blessings. Fifthly, never compare ourselves with people who are of better status than us. And finally, if we still have jealousy and envy in ourselves, we should immediately recited istighfar and repent or ask Allah for forgiveness.
