People from all walks of life are invited to join a Chap Goh Mei concert featuring eight artistes at the MBKS Lake Park Theatre here this coming Saturday (Feb 4).
Organised by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), the concert, from 7.30pm to 10.30pm, is expected to draw in an audience of 3,000 to mark the last day of this Lunar New Year celebration.
Announcing this at a press conference here yesterday, Kuching South mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng appealed to city dwellers here to join the concert to conclude this festive celebration.
“We are doing all the decorations now. We will not provide any seating so that we can have more people joining in to enjoy the atmosphere.
“If the weather is good, they can sit in the surrounding area. If the weather is not promising, the lake park theatre is roofed or we will have a concert in the rain,” he said.
According to Wee, MBKS planned to host a countdown concert end of last year but the event was put on hold due to the state-level countdown activity.
He said the last time MBKS had a countdown event was in December 2019 and such activity had been called off for two years due to the pandemic.
“We have an understanding with the ministry (of Public Health, Housing and Local Government) to do more activities. So we shift it (countdown event) to Chap Goh Mei, which is the last day of Chinese New Year celebration.
“We will continue to put up more events, healthy activities for our Kuching dwellers,” he added.
To a question, he said the eight artistes who will be staging the forthcoming concert are expected to fly in on Feb 2 and 3.
The artistes are Angeline, Vic, Han Xiiao Aii, Mingren, Faye, ROM, Drew2 and Joseph N.
The mayor pointed out that MY FM is the official media for the Feb 4 concert. MY FM DJ Addy was among those present at the conference.
Asked whether there will be any fireworks display, Wee said: “We will be waiting for sponsors after this press conference. Lion dance performance will also be looked into to enhance the culture of Chinese during this celebration.”
Also present were organising chairperson Kho Teck Wan and Kuching South councillors Bong Lian Huan and Goh Tze Hui.
