KG RIMBA, BRUNEI-MUARA

In conjunction with the Myanmar New Year and Thingyan Festival, the Ambassador of the Republic of Myanmar to Brunei Darussalam, H. E. U Cho Htun Aung and his spouse, Daw Nang Yin May Win, hosted a Water Festival celebration at their residence in Kampong Rimba yesterday.

Present for the event were Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces; foreign envoys and the Myanmar community in Brunei.

In his speech, the Myanmar Ambassador said that the water festival was organised to introduce and show their guests the unique tradition of their country. The people of Myanmar believe that the occasion can wash away any wrongdoings they have done in the past and prepare for a happy year ahead. The New Year's celebration of Myanmar usually takes place in April for three days, he added.

The celebration also saw guests extending their greeting for the New Year and children spraying water at one another during the event.

Guests at the celebration were entertained with several cultural performances which included singing and dancing and were also feted with traditional Burmese cuisine.
