Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) will be stepping up its charity efforts this year to further reach out to those in need.

According to its youth exco Cr Daniel Taha, the party will be working with various associations and non-governmental organizations to raise funds.

“The fire incident that destroyed the Rumah Bujang longhouse in Rantau Kiran recently has touched the hearts of the community including ours.

“We (PDP) are grateful to be one of the first to provide some aid- that we received through donations and contributions from various parties in the form of food, drinks and kitchen items,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Despite facing logistic issues (due to the distance from Limbang town and road conditions) and telecommunication challenges, the humanitarian aid mission was a success, he added.

In the statement, PDP thanked all the contributors; Medamit Guest Committee, Limbang Methodist Church, Nurses Association (SNPA), Fitness Gang Padang as well as other associations and members of the public.

For the record, 226 people from 39 families were left homeless in the fire incident at Rumah Bujang at Rantau Kiran, Kampung Medamit in Limbang on Jan 25.

No injury was reported in the incident that destroyed 80 per cent of the longhouse.
