MANILLLA

The Philippines has condemned the recent international ballistic missile test as well as other similar tests conducted by North Korea as such tests provoke tension across the world.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) issued the statement after North Korea fired on February 18 a long-range ballistic missile into the waters off Japan as a strong response to upcoming military drills by South Korea and the US.

“These tests provoke tension and undermine peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula, in the region and the world,” the Philippine government warned.

The Philippines then reiterated its call for North Korea to immediately stop such missile tests.

It also asked the latter to comply with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and resort to diplomacy and peaceful dialogue with South Korea.

Just three months ago, the Philippines in November also urged North Korea to halt its missile tests as these could only aggravate geopolitical tensions.
