MANILA

The Philippines saw 166 new Covid-19 cases, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on on Thursday, March 2.

The additional cases brought the active infections nationwide to 9,308, as shown in the DOH’s Covid-19 tracker.

Still, Metro Manila had logged the highest number of new cases in the past two weeks with 443.

It was followed by Davao Region with 235, Calabarzon with 199, Soccsksargen with 104, and Caraga with 78.

The country’s caseload since 2020 is at 4,076,570, the DOH said.

Of the total confirmed cases, 4,001,136 patients managed to survive from the disease. However, Covid-19 claimed the lives of 66,126 people.

Infectious disease expert Dr. Rontgene Solante expressed hope that the low number of new Covid-19 cases will continue.

“Nakikita natin (We saw that), it’s started with December, tapos noong (then in) January… February, talagang persistently low ang mga kaso natin (our cases are really persistently low),” he said in a recent public briefing.

Solante said the low number of cases can be attributed to the public’s continued adherence to the minimum public health standards, particularly the wearing of face masks.

Meanwhile, Solante urged the public to get vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19.

“Sana matangkilik ng mga population natin na at this point in time para lang mapanatili nating mababa ang mga kaso, sana tataas din ang booster vaccination rate natin especially sa mga bata (I hope the population will be encouraged at this point in time just so we can keep the cases low, I hope our booster vaccination rate will also increase, especially among children),” he said.
