A TK Maxx staff member has claimed there's a reason why staff don't check the stock room when asked to by customers - and it's got nothing to do with the public's behaviour
TK Maxx fans who love rummaging through the rails to find a bargain might want to think twice next time they ask staff to check out back for another size.
While customers will be forgiven for making what they think is a reasonable request, it turns out it's pretty pointless, according to an anonymous staff member.
One worker - who knows what goes on behind the scenes at the popular discount retailer - explained TK Maxx operates differently from some other stores.
Although it's a mainstay in several high-street shops, you won't find a stock room inside TK Maxx. So there's not much point in asking employees to check it for you.
Talking to Fabulous, an employee explained: "The stock room doesn't exist. If it's not on the shelf, it's not there.
"We do get new stock every day. It's just a game of chance. We don't use the stock room to store stock as it normally goes straight out after it's delivered."
Unfortunately, this leads to confusion for some customers, who end up annoyed when staff fail to check out back at their request.
But the good news is shoppers still have a chance to get their hands on the desired item if they are willing to be patient.
As TK Maxx gets in new stock every day, the employee recommends checking back next time you visit the store. Alternatively, you might get lucky if another customer has returned the item you were looking out for.
You'll also want to keep an eye out for single numbers on labels during trips, as former senior merchandiser Daniel Baker previously advised shoppers the number two is a sure sign you've found a brilliant bargain.
Appearing in Channel 5 documentary, TK Maxx: How do they do it?, Daniel revealed: "On any label, you can see a number. The number that is really exciting to a customer is number two because that means it's genuine stock that was sold at a higher price somewhere else.
"It's excess stock or something like that."
