The rising prices of raw materials from the suppliers have put many Ramadan bazaar traders here in a dilemma.

Operating at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 2 here, the traders feel for their customers who are already burdened with many other things amidst the current economic situation, but at the same time, the traders also have to think about their business.

Met by The Borneo Post today, many Ramadan bazaar traders said prices of raw materials would increase – at times, quite sharply – during Ramadan and up until Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

For Mohd Fadeli, 32, he opted for maintaining the prices of his grilled items.

“It is known that when the festival day comes, there’s often an increase in the prices of raw materials.

“Even so, our stall would never increase our selling prices, as there are many out there who cannot afford to buy food due to the price hikes during the month of Ramadan.

“We just hope to be able to help. We want them to be able to enjoy breaking fast with our grilled chicken and other items,” said the young stall operator.

Asked about where his supply of raw materials for Ramadan bazaar came from, Fadeli said he got them from a supermarket here.

“The items from the supermarket are pricey.

“But it’s alright. Although it’s less profitable for me, I still try to give affordable prices to my customers, without compromising the quality whatsoever,” he smiled.

Similarly, online cake seller Siti Noliza Ahmad said she was determined to keep her prices the same as last year’s, amidst the price hikes of raw materials.

“I realise that there could be some losses if we’re to maintain last year’s prices for our products, when the prices of many essential goods have increased so many times.

“Fortunately, my business is online and so, I do not worry about the costs involved in stall rental, workers’ wages and fuel.

“It somewhat offset the situation where I maintain the selling prices of my cakes,” said the 29-year-old entrepreneur, whose hot-selling items are donuts.
