Second Session Of National Assembly Opened

The 2nd session of the National Assembly's (NA) 8th Legislature officially opened yesterday to discuss many issues of the nation.

 

The 2nd session of the National Assembly meeting was chaired by NA President, Ms Pany Yathortou and was attended by President Bounnhang Vorachit and Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.

 

The NA members will hear the amended state budget for the next four years (2017-2020) and consider the Government Inspection Authority's report on the results of the audits of financial activities in fiscal year 2013-14.

 

The NA will review its work over the past six months, its plan for next year, and approve the result of the reelection of the NA members for Savannakhet Province. New topics on the agenda will include the consideration of a report on the NA's oversight of decrees and instructions issued by the government, and a report on the results of an inspection on the use of chemicals harmful to crops and human health.

 

NA members will consider an audit of the implementation of the state budget for the 2014-15 financial year, a report on the audit plan for the state budget for 2015-16, and the audit plan for next year.

 

The Office of the Supreme People's Prosecutor and Public Prosecutors Office will report on their activities over the past five years, their next-five year plan, and the plan for 2017.

 

Sixteen newly drafted laws and draft amendments to promulgated laws will be discussed and possibly approved at the session. Of the 12 draft amendments to promulgated laws, six concern administration and justice, five economic and financial sectors, one relates to the socio-cultural sector, and one concerns the military.

 

The meeting also heard a report on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan, the state budget for 2015-2016, and the socio-economic development plan and the state budget for 2017.  Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith also briefed participants on improvements made to the socio-economic development and state budget plans, and the currency plan for the following four years which will run from 2017 to 2020.

 

The Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance, and the Governor of the Bank of Laos will report on their plans on socio-economic development and the state budget for the next four years (2017-2020), and the currency plan for 2017.

 

During the session, which will run for 20 days excluding Saturdays and Sundays, the NA Secretariat will accept comments from the public. Interested parties can submit their opinions and concerns using the free hotline number 156 or fax: 021 452627.
