A mum-to-be decided to order a batch of cupcakes ahead of her gender reveal party, but says they ended up all over the floor after the baker's dog knocked them out of her hands. The baker still wants her to pay up

An expectant mother was left disappointed after the box of cupcakes she'd ordered for her gender reveal party ended up all over the floor after the baker's dog knocked them out of her hand. The baker still wants her to pay the £25 they'd agreed upon prior to collection, but she doesn't think she should.

According to this 22-year-old mum-to-be, she recently found out she was expecting a baby girl, and wanted to host a small gender reveal party over the Easter weekend for friends and family.

A few days before the Saturday event, she reached out to a local baker to make an order of 12 cupcakes "with pink and blue icing on top, and pink icing in the middle". When she went round on Friday evening to pick them up, however, disaster struck.

Taking to Reddit, the fed-up woman recalled: "I drove to her apartment and knocked on the door. She greeted me there with the box of cupcakes and they looked amazing.

"They were exactly how I imagined them and I thanked her for them. She gave me the box, but just as she did, her large pet dog came running up to me, barking, and jumped at me, knocking the box of cupcakes all over the floor."

The baker, whose name is Claire, apologised before shutting the dog inside, explaining that he just gets excited by visitors and wouldn't have meant her any harm.

At first, she didn't realise how much damage had been done to the cupcakes, as the box had landed upside down. Upon further inspection, however, she saw how "the icing had smashed all over the box". Some of the cakes had even fallen out on the ground.

She continued: "Claire looked horrified as I understand she spent a few hours making them for me. She apologised and said she could remake them for free, but they wouldn't be ready until Sunday.

"I said, unfortunately, I'm expecting my guests tomorrow and Sunday is no good, as I already had other plans. I explained I wouldn't be paying for these cupcakes as they were inedible and ruined by her dog. We agreed payment upon receiving the goods, and since I never received them, I wouldn't be paying."

Claire went on to argue however that she should still pay, given that she'd been left out of pocket after buying the ingredients. She refused, and headed off without the cupcakes, but now feels guilty and wonders whether or not she did the right thing.

One fellow Reddit user commented: "Why on earth would you need to pay for something you didn't receive? I know it would be nice to help out Claire a little bit if you guys were friends but if this is just some lady then no."

Another wrote: "She is a business owner. She needs to act like a professional. Having a wild, uncontrollable dog jumping all over your customers and knocking your product out of their hands as they're trying to pick it up is not acting like a professional.

"This has nothing to do with the cost of eggs. She knows her dog doesn't behave and therefore should crate it or lock it in another room when she is meeting customers."
