A woman caused a huge stir when she announced that she had never washed her pair of jeans - despite having owned them for nearly 20 years.

Sandra Willis is a well-known face to fans of Channel 4's Steph's Packed Lunch, where she regularly features as a guest alongside husband David.

In a recent episode of the show she declared in front of all her fans that she had never washed the pair of jeans she bought from M&S, and says they are still going strong.

Mum-of-two Sandra is an author and children's entertainer, and has since gone viral after her shock declaration.

She told The Sun: "I've had the jeans for 18 years and I know that because I bought them just after my daughter Liberty was born in 2004."

Sandra was on the hunt for some stretchy jeans after just giving birth to her daughter and found the perfect pair to make her more comfortable.

Since finding what she was looking for, the pair of jeans have become a favourite for the Leeds-based mum who wears them for all sorts of occasions from going out for dinner or popping down the pub.

She said: "I only wear them once a year and I can't get rid of them because they still look brand new. But I do the smell test and, to be fair, I must be a very clean person as they don't smell."

Sandra goes onto say that her wardrobe favourites are a darker denim that can go with anything so she feels they are a definitely a good quality pair of jeans.

In a recent episode of Steph's Packed Lunch, the presenter Steph McGovern got the audience to stand up and then she read out different time spans between jeans washes. The audience had to sit down when they heard their right time.

But by the end it was just Sandra stood on her own as she has never washed them.

She said: "I'd never really thought about it until I was forced to on the programme, and when I was the last person standing, I was a little embarrassed."

But when the episode aired, many people flocked to social media to share their thoughts on the announcement.

Many commended her honesty but some felt her choices were "gross."

This has led to around 25,000 people sharing their thoughts and Sandra has admitted to being shocked by the fallout her announcement has caused.

But Sandra is certain that she won't change up her washing routine.

Cleaning gurus have suggested washing your jeans once after every 10 washes, but experts warn against not over washing your jeans.

Monique Leeuwenburgh, the director of product technology at Marks & Spencer, told The Mirror: "The less that you can wash your denim jeans the better they keep their appearance, especially with dark indigo denims.

"Try not to leave jeans wet in the washing machine for too long after washing. It's better to take them straight out and shake out before drying flat or hanging them on the washing line."
