BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Routine immunisation is one of the important basic of health care because it is the starting point for health care from the beginning of a child's life, to live a healthy life. The Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, through the Ministry of Health, committed to provide a comprehensive immunization programme to all citizens and residents until reaching an annual immunization coverage rate of more than 95 percent in the past 10 years. The matter was emphasised by the Minister of Health, in a message in conjunction with World Immunisation Week 2023.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar also stated, although Brunei Darussalam hit by the COVID-19, routine immunisation services for children continue to be carried out as part of an important service to protect the population from the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases. Vaccinations for pregnant women and high-risk groups also continue to be given during the period.

The National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme implemented on 3rd April 2021 has provided additional protection against the COVID-19 infection to the people and residents of the country. As of 31st March 2023, more than one million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered nationwide. Therefore, the coverage rate of COVID-19 vaccination in Brunei Darussalam remains at a high level.

This year's World Immunisation Week with the theme "The Big Catch-up" is celebrated from 24th to 30th April 2023. In support of the theme, His Majesty's Government will continue to play a role in ensuring that all citizens and residents in the country get fully benefit from the vaccines. Such a celebration is also intended to be a strong and effective commitment for every individual in the country to value their own health; be more responsible in ensuring proper vaccination; and achieve Wawasan Brunei 2035 which is accomplishment of a high quality of life for the population.
