​His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, will leave for London, United Kingdom to attend the Coronation Ceremony of His Majesty King Charles the Third, King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and Her Majesty the Queen Consort.
The Coronation Ceremony that will be held at Westminster Abbey, London, on 6th May 2023, is expected to be attended by members of the Royal Family as well as Heads of State and Government from around the world. The close ties between the two royal families can be seen through a series of past visits including when His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam met His Majesty King Charles the Third in the United Kingdom on 14th December 2022, and the visit of His Majesty King Charles the Third to Brunei Darussalam on 2nd November 2017.
The long-standing ties of friendship and cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom, in which both countries cooperate in the fields of defence and education, continue to serve as a foundation in achieving shared welfare and prosperity of the two countries and peoples.
Following the Coronation Ceremony of His Majesty King Charles the Third, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will attend the 42nd ASEAN Summit which will be held in Labuan Bajo, Republic of Indonesia on 9th to 11th May 2023. The Summit, chaired by His Excellency Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia as the Chairman of ASEAN this year, will also be attended by other ASEAN leaders. Under the theme 'ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth', the Republic of Indonesia will focus on strengthening ASEAN to become a fast-growing, inclusive, and sustainable economic region by building a solid regional health architecture, maintaining food and energy security as well as financial stability.
In addition, the Republic of Indonesia aims to strengthen ASEAN’s capacity and institutional effectiveness to be able to respond to future challenges and for ASEAN to be more adaptive, responsive and competitive. The Republic of Indonesia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN will also focus on effective implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific, AOIP, in its four priority areas, namely, connectivity, maritime cooperation, Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, and economic cooperation.
