​His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam paid his last respects to Allahyarham Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Putera Negara Pengiran Haji Umar bin Pengiran Datu Penghulu Pengiran Haji Apong in Kampung Salambigar, 12th May afternoon. Allahyarham passed away at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital at 8.45 this morning at the age of 83. Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.

His Majesty performed the jenazah or funeral prayer led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar. Allahyarham had held several positions in the Royal Brunei Police Force including Deputy Commissioner of Police and Commissioner of Police. Allahyarham was bestowed the Cheteria LAPAN with the title "Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Putera Negara" on 10th August 1972. Allahyarham was also bestowed with several State Decorations and Honorary Medals. Allahyarham was buried at Tanah Perkuburan Islam Kianggeh.
