A determined Wetherspoons superfan claims he's spent more than £20,000 visiting every single branch in the UK, and is now heading over to Ireland to continue with his quest

A British man says he loves Wetherspoons so much, he's made it his mission to visit every single branch in the UK, spending more than £20,000 doing so.

David Bingham, 60, has managed to set foot in every single Wetherspoons pub in the UK except for the Gatwick Airport branch, and is now continuing his quest overseas.

On Sunday, May 21, David and his partner Una Cooper will set sail on a cruise to Ireland, where they intend to visit each of the country's nine Wetherspoons.

The 10-day Norwegian Cruise Line excursion, which set David and Una back £1,088 each, will take the couple to Waterford, and then on to Ireland's West coast. They then plan to spend two nights in Dublin, where they'll be able to tick off most of the country's 'Spoons.

Retired forklift truck driver David has spent three years on his unusual mission, clocking up to 2,000 miles a month while travelling. Sometimes he's only stayed in a branch for a quick two-minute visit, while other times he'll stay and enjoy a pint.

Una, who doesn't drink and isn't "really a pub person" likes to travel and so will often accompany David on his trips, The Sun reports. Last year, the couple embarked on a British Isles cruise, which docked in Belfast.

David, who lives in Burton, Staffordshire, told the publication: "My partner went to the giant's causeway, and I went to the three Wetherspoons pubs. There's never a dull moment. It's a great way to see the country."

David and Una, 63, spent £69 each flying from Heathrow to Manchester for the sole purpose of visiting the airport's 'Spoons, heading straight back on the train after their visit.

The Wetherspoons superfan, who took on the epic challenge after Una gifted him a Wetherspoons directory, even went as far as to book a flight to Poland - which he had no plans to take - just so he could get through security to reach the airport pub.

David managed to cross off the final 46 pubs on his list during a four-day trip to Scotland, toasting his success with a San Miguel and a Heineken.

Explaining why he loves the chain so much, David said: "I love Wetherspoons because of the incredible buildings they are in — many of them are old fire stations, post offices, and other beautiful sites. Spoons saves these buildings."

The branches he's liked the best include the Royal Victoria Pavilion in Ramsgate; The Corn Exchange in Bury St Edmunds; the Winter Gardens in Harrogate; and Edinburgh's Caley Picture House.
