Digital literacy and skill development are the key in empowering the citizens. Under the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025, Brunei Darussalam is gearing towards a digital and future ready society. In order to achieve this, the country must equip the people with knowledge and skills necessary to leverage technology effectively.

 

The matter was contained in the message of Minister of Transport and Infocommunications in commemoration of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

 

According to Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Brunei Darussalam is also encouraging MSMEs to take up digitalistion and online businesses. Among the initiatives include the efforts by AITI to offer joint funding scheme called “The Productivity and Efficiency Joint-Funding for Digital Adoption, PENJANA to businesses to enhance their productivity.

 

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is celebrated every 17th May to increase awareness on the tremendous possibilities that ICT and the Internet can bring to the societies and economies globally. This year's theme is, “Empowering the Least Developed Countries through Information and Communication Technologies".
